MYOPIA DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT

Myopia or nearsightedness is a condition where the distance vision is blurry, but near vision is clear. Typically, this is caused by the eye growing too much. Later in life, myopia is associated with increased risks for vision loss due to conditions such as retinal disease and glaucoma. This risk increases with the amount of myopia. Here at Duncanville Eye Associates, we follow the newest research and technology to treat this condition. There are multiple options to slow the progression of myopia. Myopia control eyeglass lenses have now been approved by the FDA and have been shown to slow the progression from 50 to 70%. Our doctor will be happy to review the best treatment for your child and build an individualized treatment plan with you. The best time to start treatment for the best outcome is at the initial stages of myopia development which is typically before a child will fail a screening at the pediatrician’s or the school. This is why we recommend yearly eye examinations for children starting between 6 to 12 months of age.
